En route home from timing in Phalaborwa to our home base in Kloof, KwaZulu-Natal, members of Team #FinishTime spent a night at Waterfront Guest House in Carolina, which proved to be the perfect layover spot to make the journey safe and comfortable. Those interested in visiting one of Southern Africa’s most noted gems — the Kruger National Park — will be interested to know that Waterfront Guest House is less than three hours from the park gate.
After a hectic weekend of race timing, the ambience at Waterfront Guest House was exactly what the team needed. Every one of the spacious rooms has a peaceful view overlooking the dam, and our team took advantage of the opportunity to relax in the garden and use the quiet atmosphere (and free WiFi) to get caught up on emails and event queries.
The rooms were comfortable and well set up, each with a private entrance, tea and coffee-making facilities and a workspace, which is always a valued commodity for our team — and for others who happen to be on a work trip rather than a holiday. Each room also has either a balcony or veranda with a stunning view. Breakfast is offered on-site, and the team will happily send you on your way with a packed lunch if that suits your plans better.
In short, our team found Waterfront Guest House to be a delightful place to stay and we will definitely be back next time there’s a race to be timed in Mpumalanga.
