One of Team #FinishTime’s favourite spots when we need overnight accommodation in the Western Cape is Swartberg Street Guest House in the charming town of Laingsburg, which is the gateway to the Great Karoo.
Good old-fashioned hospitality is a way of life here, and the units are equipped with comfortable double or single beds, kitchens and braai facilities – but meals are also available if you don’t want to cook, which is often a popular option for tired race timers. The other huge advantage for our teams has been the fact that reception is around the clock and that, with the help of security, they can check in at any time of the day or night.
Members of our team have often expressed the desire to go back to Laingsburg when they aren’t working and check out some of the local tourist attractions, which include a monthly farmer’s market that is said to be legendary.
The guest house was built in 1982, in the aftermath of severe flooding which hit the area in 1981. Our verdict? You’d be hard-pressed to find a more relaxed ambiance, friendlier hosts or a more pleasant town.
