Midmar Resort

Midmar Dam is a well-known icon to anyone who lives in KZN – and also to lots of people who live further afield. One of the big reasons for this is the annual Midmar Mile, which is the world’s biggest open-water swim. Over and above its role as an event locale, Midmar offers a great location for a family weekend away. When timing the Midmar Mile, Team #FinishTime stays in the chalets at Midmar Resort. Our team members’ verdict was that the accommodation is rustic but comfortable and inviting.

The chalets cater for families of any size, with the options ranging from two-bed chalets to six-bed chalets. For those who prefer a more rustic holiday, Midmar also offers campsites. One of the factors that makes Midmar accommodation so popular is the sheer variety of things to do here. The dam offers excellent fishing, and those interested in game viewing can be lucky enough to spot species like red hartebeest, black wildebeest and zebra. Over and above this, the dam is zoned for yachts, powerboats and personal water craft – and of course, a stay at Midmar is the perfect opportunity to work on your open water swimming skills. In short, our team found Midmar Dam to be a tranquil place to enjoy a bit of respite after a hard day’s race timing.
