ROAD runners looking to take part in the popular 10km race for the UKZN Campus to Campus in Durban on Sunday, July 28, have until Monday to get their entries in for the popular event
The undulating 10km event between the Howard College and Westville campuses of the University of KwaZulu-Natal takes runners on a scenic journey through some of Durban’s residential suburbs from the Berea to Westville.
UKZN’s Executive Director of Corporate Relations, Ashton Bodrick, said the organisation for the Campus to Campus event is on track and athletes can expect a slick, well-organised event.
“The team of organisers are all working hard for next weekend’s race and fun run and I am confident they will put on an event that all participants will enjoy,” said Bodrick. “Our first priority is to make sure everything runs smoothly on the day and the squad of helpers are making sure nothing is overlooked.
“We urge the UKZN community and the public at large to support the races and bring along friends and family for what we hope is a great day. We are hoping the 5km fun runners dress to the #1LoveUKZN theme for a bit of extra fun.
“Of course there is a serious side to the event as well. We are organising the UKZN Campus to Campus in support of the UNAIDS Global 90-90-90 strategy. This is a United Nations project that targets 2020 as the year in which 90% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status; 90% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained anti-retroviral therapy; and 90% of all people receiving anti-retroviral therapy will have viral suppression.”
Runners can enter at any Pick n Pay Store, WebTicketsActive or via www.finishtime.co.za. Entries for the 10km close on Monday, July 22 at 10am. No 10km entries will be taken on the day of the race. All 10km entrants get free t-shirts. UKZN registered students can enter the 10km race for free (enter via www.ukzn.ac.za).
Entry to the Fun Run is free and participants are encouraged to dress to the theme of #1LoveUKZN. Free t-shirts will be given to the first 250 runners who register for the Fun Run.
Registration, race number and race pack collection will be at the Student Union at Pietermatizburg Campus on Wednesday, July 24; Student Union at Howard College Campus on Thursday, July 25; Main Hall at the Westville Campus on Friday, July 26; and Admin Building (MW Makgoba Building) on Westville Campus on Saturday July 27.
