When converging on Durban to time the prestigious Comrades Marathon, members of Team #FinishTime who live in various far-flung parts of South Africa had the opportunity to stay in Morningside’s eMakhosini Boutique Hotel. As its website advertises, this hotel is a delightful blend of French colonial and traditional Zulu. The décor is eclectic, with wood panelling in some communal areas complemented by regal blue walls and chandeliers in others.
There are three types of rooms on offer: standard, deluxe and suites. All rooms offer comfortable king-sized beds and en suite bathrooms, while the deluxe rooms also feature private balconies with views of the property. Each suite boasts a unique choice of a free-standing bath, his and hers shower or a spa bath.

emaKhosini Boutique Hotel offers an array of features that make it both comfortable and practical for business trips. There’s an on-site restaurant and coffee shop – and they were kind enough to prepare breakfast packs for our team on race day. Secure on-site parking and free WiFi made getting our work done simple. Each room offers a TV with select DSTV channels as well as complimentary tea and coffee.
Timing the Comrades Marathon is no small undertaking, but our success began with a comfortable stay at eMakhosini Boutique Hotel, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
