As KwaZulu-Natal runners look for the best qualifier for Two Oceans and Comrades, Durban joggers need to look no further than the Durban beachfront on February 29 when the KZN Best of Best Marathon provides a perfect opportunity.
The marathon, half marathon and 10km takes in the beachfront and Durban North area to provide an interesting two-lap course that starts and finishes at Kings Park Athletics Stadium.
Taking place just a couple of weeks before the deadline for Two Oceans runners to secure a sub five-hour qualifying time, the KZN Best of Best may prove to be better than all the other options when it comes to qualifying for the country’s major ultras.
The route starts at Kings Park and, unlike many other events that start in and around Durban’s popular sporting hub, runners briefly head south before circling Suncoast and following the beautiful beachfront back to Blue Lagoon and then along the well-used Hyper / Beachwood route to Virginia and Durban North. Competitors turn inland and meander through the residential suburbs of the Broadway and Athlone areas before returning to Kings Park over the Athlone Bridge.
The half marathon runners will turn into Kings Park Athletics Stadium after one lap, while the full 42,2km marathon runners will head off on a second lap of the same route (map of the route at bit.ly/BestOfBestRoute2020). The action starts at 5am.
Runners wanting to get an early look at the route can join the event organisers, the Ama-Ravens Athletics Club, on Saturday February 15 for the route tester which sets off from Kings Park at 5am.
Online entries are on Webtickets at bit.ly/BestOfBest2020Enter. Race pack collection and late entries are at Kings Park Athletics Stadium on February 27-28 from 9am to 4pm each day. There will be no entries on race day.
