How often have you wanted to hear the words “you are an Ironman”? Well the first step to that dream is happening on 27 January in East London, when the first of the Ironman Series events takes place in Buffalo City. South Africa’s cream of Ultra Triathlon will line up in Buffalo City to vie for the title of African TriClub Champion. South Africa’s Matt Trautmann and Jeanni Seymour had too much firepower for a strong international contingent. Will they emerge triumphant again on 27 January and claim the title of African Champion?
The other major events in the year are the Standard Ironman in PE doubling as the African Championships, (7 April), Durban 70.3 (2 June), there is the 5150 in Bela Bela on 17 August, 5150 Ekurhuleni on 20 October and the 5150 Port Elizabeth whose date has yet to be confirmed. Iron Man competitions in South Africa have grown in size over the years as athletes of all standards seek to challenge themselves more and more, and the Ironman Series is the perfect way to do that. Over 6000 international competitors descended onto Port Elizabeth in 2018 for the 70.3 World Championships won by Daniella Ryf (Switerland) and Jan Frodeno (Germany). So if Ultra Triathlon is your thing. Watch this space carefully as we bring you more news on what to expect.
